Your company?

ChatGPT's real answer for Clifton on October 2, 2026, with the names hidden. Six companies made it. Every other HVAC company in town didn't.

What I learned asking ChatGPT about 18 North Jersey towns

About 45% of people now use AI tools like ChatGPT to find local businesses, up from 6% the year before (BrightLocal, 2026). Here's what those people are being told.

  • It names only 3 to 6 companies per town.

Saddle Brook got 3 names. Clifton got 6. If you're not in that handful, you're not in the answer at all.

  • Great reviews aren't enough.

One local company has a perfect 5.0 from 239 Google reviews. ChatGPT didn't name them, even for their own town.

  • The answer changes in Spanish.

Ask about Clifton in Spanish and different companies come up. Two that made the English list disappeared.
